The mud mixing system consists of several mud mixing tanks and skid mounted jet mud mixing unit. On the mud tanks there are agitators and mud guns, the agitators are used to stir the mud to make it even and keep the good chemical feature. The mud gun is used to spray to corner of the tank to avoid the solids collected there. The jet mud mixing unit is used to add some chemicals to the mud system to keep the mud working in good condition. GNMS series mud recycling system is high standard configuration of GN mud recycling systems, they are perfect solution for HDD projects because:
1. GNZS703E-DZ shale shaker is a mature design of GN Solids Control, it use 3 pcs of shaker screens and the screen area is 2.63 cbm. Same as all the GN Shale Shakers, GNZS703E-DZ shale shaker uses the patented technology for the deck sealing in order to prevent leaking of liquid. Shaker deck frame is Stainless steel to have stronger structure for a longer service life. Unless its peer model GNZS703E-HB which is designed for oil and gas solids control system, this model of shale shaker is suitable for get fed via a submersible slurry pump from a mud pit. Drilling mud circulation during zero-discharge system is an endless cycle. However, while the drilling fluid filtering through the start from shale shaker to the end of decanter centrifuge,
The density of the mud changes during filtrations. The total amount of the drilling fluid will lose by continuing fluid filtering as well. Jet mud mixer use to make up the lst of the drilling mud by adding new fluid into existing fluid and mix them well. It is also mixes other additive into the drilling mud such as betonies and barite. A Chemical additive such as polymer are used to change drilling fluid density, viscosity and hydration. The additive is entered by jet mud mixer into the mud storage tank.
The mud mixing hopper is part of the jet mud mixer that powered by centrifugal pump that allow the drilling mud move at high velocity to funnel shaped hopper. Principals of Drilling Fluids Recycling Operation

During HDD projects, drilling fluid from the wellbore is pumped from the mud pit into a primary or scalping shaker, where larger drill cuttings are removed. The fluid then drops into the mud tank compartment where it is recovered and pumped into hydrocyclones for removal of finer solids. some systems will discharge the hydroclone underflow slurry over ultra fine screens for additional fluids recovery. The hydrocyclone overflow (clean liquid), is discharged into a clean compartment and is ready for reuse or conditioning. Discharging hydrocyclone underflow slurry over ultra-fine screens is an very good solution to make the solids discharge much drier, and more fluid is recovered. This requires a high performance shaker with a large screen area.

How to Select the Drilling Fluids Recycling System for your HDD rig

Drilling fluids recycling system should include mixing system with a venture-style jet mixing hopper and a charge pump to send positive pressure feed back to the rig’s mud pump. Adequate tank volume is important, but treating capacity of the system is even more important. A recycling system should be capable of processing at least one and a half times the maximum capacity of the rig’s mud pump. This is usually determined by the size and number of hydrocylones the unit has.

What is Diamond Core Drilling

Commonly used in construction to create holes for pipes, manholes, and other penetration in concrete or stone, in core drilling the drilling apparatus remove material by a hole saw looklike drill bit tipped by diamond. The material left inside the drilling bit is referred to as the Core.

Shale shaker is one type major solids control equipment used in oilfield drilling, HDD or other drilling projects. Nowadays, the most advantaged shale shaker is the balanced elliptical shale shaker, while the most popular used is the linear motion shale shaker. What is the difference between the linear motion and balanced elliptical shale shaker.  Let’s talk something about it.

As we known, the second generation shale shaker is Elliptical motion, the third generation is linear motion and the fourth generation is balanced elliptical motion. Many clients often regard the fourth generation as elliptical motion, however, that is an incorrect understading about it. Linear motion shale shaker often apply 2 vibrating motor with same power, but the vibrating direction is opposit horizontal. At the vertical direction, the vibrating force produced by 2 motors will reduplicate. Thus the vibrationg mode is a linear and forward direction.

While on a Balanced elliptical shale shaker, the 2 vibrating motors are different in power, that results an unbalanced force counteracting. So the vibration mode will be like that (shown in below picture.)

In a HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) project, the drilling mud overflowing from the drill hole is often guided into a mud pit or a lower tank which the drilling mud level is lower than the drilling mud cleaning equipments. Therefore, we need a device to transfer the mud from a lower place to a relative higher place, that is why we choose cellar pump. Cellar pump is used to transfer the drilling mud to the first stage mud cleaning equipment – shale shaker. To some extend, cellar pump is not one part of the complete mud cleaning system.
