As an important part for the solid control and mud recycling system, desander, desilter and mud cleaner could be applied in many areas, such as the oil and gas drilling, HDD, trenchless, CBM, TBM, mining, dredging and so on. Now in the industry there are two main kinds of method of mechanical separation,  one is using the screens devices and the other is using the centrifugal separation devices, Shale shaker and hydrocyclone represent the two typical methods. In the solid control system, the GN’s shale shaker has great G force that can separate the liquid and solid by vibrating the screens, which is also called the coarse separation. After the coarse separation, the solid will be gathered into the waste tank and get disposed, the liquid then will be transmitted into the circulation tank and transferred to the next level of tank for further separation. The next level of finer separation is by using the desander, desilter or the mud cleaner, which is also to be called the combination of shale shaker, desander and desilter. In the tank, a centrifugal pump will be working as the feed pump for the hydrocyclones.  The centrifugal pump will boost the liquid to the hydrocyclones. The liquid will first goes into the bigger hydroclone of the desander, whose diameter is 10 inch. After that separation, the liquid will be boosted into the desilter, whose diameter is 4 inch. All the processed liquid will be circulated into the next level and the solid will be transferred into the waste tank for final disposal. If there is valuable element in the liquid, such as the barite, there will be a shaker screen installed underneath the desander or desilter for further separation and drying the mud. All the GN’s equipment are reliable and tough,  and have been sold to more than 60 countries. They are all very popular with the customers.

One fixed 500GPM drilling mud recycling where possible system was sent to Center East for water very well drilling. Besides the drilling mud recycling system for essential oil drilling, they also need tool water well for day-to-day requirement for clean water. For your person living in Middle Distance, water is more important as compared to oil. Sounds like a job, although that is reality.
Water nicely is not so deep much like the oil well, and the drilling cost is also very cheap looking at with oil drilling. But both this 2 drilling processes need the going mud recycling system to be able to speed up the drilling procedure and protect the punch bit. Water well going may not need the used drilling mud to be separated extremely clean as it is not required strictly. They have one unit shale shaker GNZS703DZ with 3 panel screens which could remove out solids always larger than 600 microns. This model is by using the mud feeder along with the shaker deck so this shaker could be considerably more compact. As the water very well drilling is always not so deeply, hence, the solids developing the drilling mud is obviously not so hard. In this 500GPM mud recycling system, typically the de-sander cone is not loaded, but directly the de-silter cone would be used to individual the solids size of all-around 20 microns.
This 500GPM water well drilling mud system is a standard GN model GNMS-500G with 3 unit centrifugal pumps. One among each is used as giving pump for the de-silter cyclone, and the other one is useful for mud mixing, the mud tank is divided into a couple of compartments. It has enough space regarding clean mud storage.
Even though this 500GPM mud system is for water well drilling , it can also be used in other drilling project like HDD. Since the working principle is completely the identical. The customer killed two chickens with only one stone.

Core Drilling is a main mode of exploration in mining industial like the seeking for copper, gold and silver. The main equipment of a core drilling is a diamond-tipped core drills. It is always designed as the opened end to remove a cylinder of material, The material left inside the drill bit is referred to as the core.

Core Drilling Cuttings

The cuttings created in the core drilling is very fine. These ultra fine cuttings can cause many issues down the hole such as broken cores, lost cores, and premature bit wear. In order to keep the core intact and the bit cooled, a bentonite including drilling mud is required. Besides the above mentioed two functions, the drilling mud could also take the cuttings out of the drilling hole.

Core Drilling Solids Control Unit

The flow rate of drilling mud in a core drilling is aften not large, maybe hundred GPM. So, not all the whole line solids control equipments needed. Sometimes, a desander with tank is enough to remove the ultra fine cuttings from the drilling mud. Different end user may choose different equipment to complete the mud clean mission, therefore, a high efficience centrifuge is also a ideal solution.

Vibration motors for both mud cleaners

Derrick adopt Super G2® vibrating motors feature a continuous internal oil bath lubrication system provides longer life, reduced repair costs and robust maintenance-free operation. Two Super G2 motors are standard equipment for FLC 500. GN mud cleaner use vibration motors have G force upto 7.3G also.

This provides user higher force and make better separation performance. The vibration motor will run longer and at a reduced decibel level (80 dBA) which greatly extends the life of the motor. Excellent quality offer lower cost and higher efficiency.

Screens for FLC and GN Cleaner

Derrick has many screens division according to different standard. Such as PWP, PMD, PMD+. Then according to open area percentage and weaving type there is DX, HP, also DF. As per cleaner type there is FLC500 and FLC2000.

For GN Cleaner there is various shaker screens. According to shaker and mud cleaner division we also have flat and pyramid screens with different dimensions. Such as GN703,GN852, etc. Including linear motion and BEM type. Screens for Derrick FLC and GN cleaner will adopts qualified screens manufactured as per API RP 13C. Including conductance, mesh size, cut point, etc.

Screen tensioning on Cleaners

Derrick use single-side tensioning system shortens screen panel replacement time more less and can be configured for operation on either the left or right side. This system provides reliable and consistent panel tensioning throughout the life of the machine.

Adjustable deck while drilling

Both Derrick and GN cleaners enable one person to quickly and easily raise or lower the shaker basket from -1° to +5° even -1° to +7°. As drilling rates and formation or mud properties will be variable during different drilling depth, etc.

The angle of the screen deck can be adjusted to achieve the proper solids convenience and fluid end point. Increased capacity, longer screen life, and optimal solids removal efficiency are final results.


Hydrocyclones or cleaner cones

Derrick offers a round desilter manifold mounted over the vibrating deck with the ability to hold up to twenty 3” or 4” hydrocyclones. This allows the FLC 500 to be used as either a high performance mud cleaner or as a means to reclaim the liquid discharged in the cone underflow.

We assembly different size hydrocyclones for different flow rate requirement. For example, GNZJ63-3 mud cleaner ,240m3/h, we use 2x 12” desander cone and 12x 4” desilter cone with a GNZS63-3 underflow shaker. Its screen area is 2.4m2(25.8 FT2) which has better performance than small shaker.



 A hydrocyclone is a device to classify/separate or sort particles in a liquid suspension based on the densities of the particles.

 Polyurethane(PU) Hydrocyclone is a special abrasion resistant polyurethane which under certain conditions can give three times more life than rubber. GN usually use 4 inch cone for desilter, 10 inch cone for desander.

 A hydrocyclone has two exits on the axis: the smaller on the bottom (underflow or reject) and a larger at the top (overflow or accept). The underflow is generally the denser or thicker fraction, while the overflow is the lighter or more fluid fraction.

Directional Drilling

Also referred to as No Dig; Trenchless Technology and HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling)

This Directional Drilling system can be surface launched, or pit launched. The surface launch Directional Drilling system can be steered to drill down at an angle into the ground and then horizontal at the required depth over its length. It can then be steered up out of the ground, so that the pipe/cables can be pulled back. Up to 250mm diameter can be installed over 100 metres in length.

The pit launched drill rig is ideal in tight spaces such as pavements etc. This operates on the same principle as the surface rig, but can fit into an excavation less than 1.3 metres in length. The Directional Drilling system can also be used to drill rock in straight sections.

GN desander and desilter consist of different size hydrocyclones to reach different treating capacity, we usually use 8”, 10”,12” cone as desander cone, and 4” cone as desilter cone. Although we have 3”,5”,6” cone, but usually we did not use it in our equipments , so as 20” cone.

High performance of hydrocyclone

Hydrocyclone is the most attractive device for removing solid particles from liquid . It utilizes the centrifugal force to effect the separation. The separation of solid from liquid depends on the particle size and particle density. Centrifugal force throws the particles out against the wall and they subsequently drop into the outlet hopper. Cyclone consists of vertical cylinder with conical bottom. The inlet point is near the top of the cylindrical portion. The particles separated are collected at the bottom. Our desander can separate 47~76μm particles, and desilter cone can separate 15~47μm particle.
