Drilling Mud Service Worksite

Solids control equipments is used to separate drilling cutting from the mud. It is always cosist of shale shaker,vacuum degasser,desander, desilter, sometimes decanter centrifuge. After the treatment by these equipments, the drilling mud from bottom hole is active for reusing.

Mostly, the drilling cuttings discharge from the shale shaker aften full of fluids and difficult for transporting. It need further drying. Then we need some drilling waste management equipments. While the main equipments in drilling waste management system are Verti G cutting drer(or drying shaker) and centrifuge. The drilling cuttings was collected and transfered by auger to cutting dryer, then for further treatment. In this system, it is also a separation for solid and fluid. Just the discharge more dryer, and more active drilling mud could be reused.

GN at China Largest Trenchless Show

GN shown one complete 500GPM drilling mud recycling system there. These system was produced for a client from Australia.
Its configration displayed as below:
1. 1 set 500GPM double Deck shale shaker
2. 1 set mud cleaner with 1 desander cone 10″ and 8 desilter cones 4″.
3. Jet mud mixer hooper.

Worth to mention is that this unit mud system is hydraulic jackup design. The jack up system at both ends of the mud tank could raise up the whole tank system so that the trailer could get in the beneath of the tank, after the mud tank droping on the trailer, it could be easily transported to other place.

Not only GN could offer the solids control solution for oil and gas drilling, also could produce the compacte mud system for HDD, CBM. That is why GN attend this trenchless technology conference.

GN Vertical Cutting Dryer

Do you know how person treat the drilling cutting discharged from Shale shaker installing on the mud tank system? As there is still too much liquid contained in the cuttings, so it is hard to transport or bury them. Therefore, we need separate the solids and liquid again.

Vertical cutting dryer could be regarded as a vertical centrifuge, the discharged cuttings transfered by the auger get into the Vertical cutting dryer from the opening on the top, under the function of centrifugal force produced by rotation of the screen module. Liquid flow out from the opening at the flank side while the solids discharged out from the outlet at the bottom of the cutting dryer. The discharged solids water content is around 30%, that means there is no flowing water, so it could be transported easily.

The liquid out from Vertical cutting dryer firstly collected in a catch tank, then transfered by monopump to a horizontal centrifuge for furthe treatment.

GN at CIPPE 2012

GN Participated CIPPE last year

Last year, although GN first time attended CIPPE 2011, she made a shock there. GN took 1 complete trailer mounted mud system there with all the necessary equipments. Many experts and business men came to GN booth for viewing and learn more about solids control. Also from then, GN let the public keep her in mind.

What has GN done this CIPPE

This year, GN booked a booth of 250m2 which is the largest one in all the manufacturer for Solids Control Equipments. Once more, GN gave the audience a superise. The Structure of Mini Mud Cleaner

Overflow launder pipeline is the most important pipeline in the mud system. From the Shale shaker compartment fo the tank, there will be a launder uphill through the desander tank, desilter tank in order to prevent the drilling mud overflow out of the tank.

The clean water pipeline is used to clean the tank, it is connected with the clean water tank or a water faucet and installed opening controled by valve in each tank.

Mud gun is always powered by mud pump in a mud system for oil drilling rig. The high pressure could transfer the active mud to each tank from the begainning of the desilter tank to make the replenishment or prevent the mud sediment. While in small mud systme, the mud gun often powered by mixing pump. Some mud system will have a trip tank, also we will install mud gun there.

In large mud system, mud pump could suction the active mud from every tank behind the desander tank. All the tanks storaging active mud is connected by the mud suction pipeline.

Mud mixing pump is used to mix the drilling mud in the tanks. Where there is the active mud in the tank, the mixing pump could suction it, after treatment by adding some drilling chemical then transfer them back by mud mixing pipeline.

the drilling hole mud replenishment pipeline is connected to wellhead, when the drilling bit raise out of the hoel, the drilling mud will be pump into the drilling hole to keep the well pressure and protect the well wall. When the drilling pit again down, the drilling mud will backflow to the trip tank.

GN mud gun

First, it always applied together with mud agitator to prevent the mud precipitating so that the homogeneous mud could be transfered or treated. Mud gun could spray the mud to the tank corner which the agitator can’t reach.
Secondly, the active mud could be added in the selected tank through the mud gun pipeline.

In different mud system, the power source of mud gun is different either. In general condition, for the mud system for oil drilling rig and workover rig, the mud gun often powered by mud pump, the pressure is higher. While in small mud system for HDD and CBM, no need for the mud pump. Therefore, the mixing pump will be used as the mud gun source.  correspondingly, the pressure is lower.
We should choose the mud gun according to the pressure.

Sometime, if the space in the tank is not large, we only choose one of the mud gun and agitator, it all depends on our purpose. For example, in the small pill tank, we only install one unit mud agitator.

What is drilling waste management

In order to protect the drilling head and take the drilling cutting out of the drill hole, we need inject drilling mud into the drilling hole by the drilling pipe. The expensive cost and recyclability promot the management for drilling waste. Simplely speaking, drilling waste management is to remove the useless drilling cuttings to get the active drilling fluids.

4. Centrifuge

Drilling waste management working principle

High Speed Centrifuge

Shale shaker is the first stage equipments in the procedure of drilling waste management. Drilling fluids mixed with large size drilling cuttings get into the screen deck.

Under the function of vibrating force, the liquid pass through the mesh screen, while the large size solid particals are removed out and get into the screw conveyer. Now the drilling waste management starts actually.
The drilling waste is transfered in to the cutting drier. In this procedure, under the centrifugal force, the liquid get rid of the fetter solid phase and pass the mesh screen into the outlet pipe, the very dry solids waste discharged out which could be easily move to other place to bury or for other application.
Always, a storage tank is used to store the liquid out of the cutting drier. Here the liquid is pumped into the centrifuge by a screw pump. In the centrifuge, more tiny solids could be separated out. After the treatment by a centrifuge, the drilling fluids is active.
