Some of our customers do the business of drilling waste management, the drier shaker is one of the main equipments in the drilling waste management system.

What is a Drier shaker

When talk about the drilling waste management, we always mention the vertical cutting drier which is used very popular in the system. Regarding the drier shaker, it is the same function with the cutting drier. And seeing from the out shape, it is same structure with the shale shaker, just with more higher force vibration motor and installed with more finer mesh screen.

How the Drier Shaker works

With the high vibration force, the water in the drilling cuttings could be uttermostly separated and through pass the mesh screen. The cuttings would be more drier, that would be easy to treat the cuttings in coming procedure. The fluids out from the drier shaker would be transfered to the centrifuge by a screw pump or slurry pump to separate the more finer solid particals.

mud tank agitator

Our customer will apply the agitators on the cylindrical tanks with depth near 4 meters. The agitator is consist of 15KW electrical motor, gear box and shaft with double impellers. The 3.3 meters long shaft is devided into 2 sections, in order to easy transportation and different purpose in operating. The double layer 950mm diameter impeller is designed as movable as per the customer’s requirements, the joint point of the shaft is between the 2 layers impeller, after removeing the down half section, the agitator still could work.

During the communication with our customer, we suggest to install the stabilizer for the agitator to prevent the shaking when the shaft rotating. Considering there is pipeling opening at the bottom of the tank, our customer design the stabilizer impending with the supports connecting with the tank wall, and they will produce by theirself.

Hydrocyclone structure

The structure of the hydrocyclone is very simple, for the desander hydrocyclone, it always consist of inlet volute part , upper cone, down cone and nozzel, while the desilter hydrocyclone is often a cone with nozzle. Inner the hydrocyclone is hollow, the drilling mud was feeded by the centrifugal pump into the hydrocyclone along a tangent route. With the presure offered by pump, the drilling mud rotates in the hydrocyclone. Under the function of centrifugal power, the solid particles move towards the inner wall of hydrocyclone, and due to the gravity, the solid particles was flow out of the nozzle. Exactely speaking, the solids is spurt out of the hydrocyclone. While the fluids overflow out from the upper opening of the cone.

Whether the Hydrocyclone works well

After we knowing the strcuture and working principle of the hydrocyclone, we could tell easily whether the hydrocyclone is working well or not. Because of the inertia, at the moment of the solids is spurt out, the solids move towards the hydrocyclone wall. Thus, when we see the underflow drilling mud, we could see that the mud is jet-like rather than bundle. If bundle, then we could tell that the pressure in the hydrocyclone is lower than required.

First stage for solids control & purification

Shale shaker is widely known as a solids control equipments used in drilling projects. It is a very basic equipment that could separate the drilling cutting more than 250 microns by fine mesh screens. During this stage, actually, the solids control and purificaion happens at the same time. Just as its name implies, solids control is separate the solids from the fluids, while the drilling cutting and other large size impurities being separated, the drilling mud is purified.

Second stage for purification

A vacuum degasser could be functioned as the second stage purification equipments. You may doubt that why the vacuum degasser is not a solids control equipments. That is because during this stage, there is no solids separated from the drilling mud, just the invasive air is removed. Why must remove the air from the drilling mud? Invaded air could reduce the specific gravity of the mud and make the centrifucal pump work at low efficiency.

Second stage for solids control & Third stage for purification

After treated by vacuum degasser, drilling mud is feeded in to desander by centrifugal pump. The main parts of 1 set desander are the hydrocyclones. Desander cone could separate the solid particals with size of 45 microns.

Third stage for solids contro & Fourth stage for purification

Same working principle with desander, desilter cones separate the particals of 16 microns. Desander differs desilter by the size of hydrocyclone.

Fourth stage for solids control & Fifth stage for purification

You will see this stage equipments in large mud system for oil & gas drilling. 1 set decanting centrifuge is the leading role in this stage. By centrifugal sedimentation principle, centrifuge could separate the solid of 2~7 microns from drilling mud. However, in some other samll and compact drillng mud system, we don’t see the centrifuge very aften, as during those drilling projects, the request for the purification of mud is not very high like in oil drilling. For example, HDD.

Drilling mud after the solids control and purification by the equipments mentioned above could be recycled into the drilling well. Greatly save the cost and benefit for environment. Vibrosieve

One complete Vibrosieve assy mainly consists baffle box, pond deck, vibration motor, control panel. Fixed on the tank top, the drilling mud feeded by the the pipeline from the rig or slurry pump which is installed on the mud pit firstly flow into the baffle box, then after separating by the fine mesh screen, the drilling cuttings was discharge out of the shaker, while the mud containing the bentonite drop into the tank compartment for next step treatment.
At this stage, we mainly propose the vibrosieve model of GNZS703 and GNPS703. Both of these 2 models designed 3 panel screens, with a maximum high G by 7.0. The vibration motor comes from Italy Oli,which make sure the stable performence.

Centrifugal Pump with Control Panel

Shortly before,we sent one set SB6x5-12 centrifugal pump with control panel to our Indonesia customer. They are a drilling company, and have their mud recycling system on their work site. After find our products from the internet website, they contact with us and plan to have a try for our products. Happend to that they need a charge pump for their 44OHP mud pump. After some communication on the phone and through the mail, and their once visit to our factory, they placed the order.

This set SB6x5-12 centrifugal pump is consist of Pump head, 37KW electric motor, independent control box.  All the parts are mounted on a skid. Comparing with our usual installation, we did’t weld the the control panel fixed on the skip, but bolt it so that it could be uninstalled easily.

Why did we make it like this? At the time of nearly finish the producing for the pump, we made a call to our customer asking for that how should we install the control panel on the skid to mostly meet the actual operation on the work site.  Fortunately, this call prevented us from making mistakes in producing the pump, neither our customer have told us that it is required to installed the control panel removable, for they want to control pump from a far distance. At last, we did as per customers requirements, even we offered the cables of 5 meters from the pump to the control box. Our job won the good remarks from our customer.

GN shale shaker

Shale shaker is one type major solids control equipment used in oilfield drilling, HDD or other drilling projects. Nowadays, the most advantaged shale shaker is the balanced elliptical shale shaker, while the most popular used is the linear motion shale shaker. What is the difference between the linear motion and balanced elliptical shale shaker.  Let’s talk something about it.

As we known, the second generation shale shaker is Elliptical motion, the third generation is linear motion and the fourth generation is balanced elliptical motion. Many clients often regard the fourth generation as elliptical motion, however, that is an incorrect understading about it. Please refer the pictures below, you could find the difference of these two vibration mode:

Linear Motion

Linear motion shale shaker often apply 2 vibrating motor with same power, but the vibrating direction is opposit horizontal. At the vertical direction, the vibrating force produced by 2 motors will reduplicate. Thus the vibrationg mode is a linear and forward direction.

While on a Balanced elliptical shale shaker, the 2 vibrating motors are different in power, that results an unbalanced force counteracting. So the vibration mode will be like that (shown in below picture.)

Balanced Elliptical Motion

The balanced elliptical shale shaker is a production from combination of commerce and science. GN  BEM shaker won the National technology progress awards.

What Is Mud Conditioner

Simply Speaking, mud conditioner is a combination equipment of desander, desilter and Vibration screen. It is always used as the second and the third stage drilling mud cleaning equipment. The upper part of the mud conditioner is desander cone and desilter cone connected by pipeline system, also the pipeline worked as the frame structure. In our design, the size of the drilling mud inlet pipe is always 6″ while the outlet (also called overflow pipe) is 8″. The bottom part of the mud conditioner is a underflow shaker which we match 250 mesh fine screen on the shaker. The screen could be installed and uninstalled easily by inserting and drawing out the wedge block which is used to secure the screen.

Option for Cone Quantity & Underflow Shaker Type in Mud Conditoner

In selecting the desander and desilter cone quantity, we should know the treating capacity of the device.
The quantity of the desander and desilter cone for various capacity mud conditoner shown below:
500GPM — 4″ x 8 Nos. desilter cone, 10″ x 1 No. desander cone.
800GPM — 4″ x 12 Nos. desilter cone, 10″ x 2 No. desander cone.
1000GPM — 4″ x 16 Nos. desilter cone, 10″ x 2 No. desander cone.

For choosing the underflow shaker, in the complete mud system, the type of the mud conditioner underflow shaker is same with the shale shaker used as the firts stage drilling mud cleaning equipment. Why would we choose the same type, because it is easy for the back up spares and maintenance service. If the mud cleaner used as the single device, there are 2 type available, Linear Motion and Balanced Elliptical Motion. In comparing of this 2 type shaker, the BEM shaker is higher speed and More capacity in discharging.

In order to meet the special requirement from the client, we could produce mud conditioner according the customized design. Such as for a 200 GPM mud system, we could choose 4 Nos. 4″ desilter cone and none desander cone. The underflow shaker deck is divided into 2 areas for different mesh screen.
