Bentonite’s usefulness in the drilling and geotechnical engineering industry comes from its unique rheological properties. In order to reduce the cost of project, the bentonite is often recycled by using some bentonite recycling equipments. One key equipment we always hear about is vibrosieve.

One complete Vibrosieve assy mainly consists baffle box, pond deck, vibration motor, control panel. Fixed on the tank top, the drilling mud feeded by the the pipeline from the rig or slurry pump which is installed on the mud pit firstly flow into the baffle box, then after separating by the fine mesh screen, the drilling cuttings was discharge out of the shaker, while the mud containing the bentonite drop into the tank compartment for next step treatment. Centrifugal Pump with Control Panel

Shortly before,we sent one set SB6x5-12 centrifugal pump with control panel to our Indonesia customer. They are a drilling company, and have their mud recycling system on their work site. After find our products from the internet website, they contact with us and plan to have a try for our products. Happend to that they need a charge pump for their 44OHP mud pump. After some communication on the phone and through the mail, and their once visit to our factory, they placed the order.

This set SB6x5-12 centrifugal pump is consist of Pump head, 37KW electric motor, independent control box.  All the parts are mounted on a skid. Comparing with our usual installation, we did’t weld the the control panel fixed on the skip, but bolt it so that it could be uninstalled easily.

Shale shaker is one type major solids control equipment used in oilfield drilling, HDD or other drilling projects. Nowadays, the most advantaged shale shaker is the balanced elliptical shale shaker, while the most popular used is the linear motion shale shaker. What is the difference between the linear motion and balanced elliptical shale shaker.  Let’s talk something about it.

As we known, the second generation shale shaker is Elliptical motion, the third generation is linear motion and the fourth generation is balanced elliptical motion. Many clients often regard the fourth generation as elliptical motion, however, that is an incorrect understading about it. Please refer the pictures below, you could find the difference of these two vibration mode:

Linear motion shale shaker often apply 2 vibrating motor with same power, but the vibrating direction is opposit horizontal. At the vertical direction, the vibrating force produced by 2 motors will reduplicate. Thus the vibrationg mode is a linear and forward direction.

While on a Balanced elliptical shale shaker, the 2 vibrating motors are different in power, that results an unbalanced force counteracting. So the vibration mode will be like that (shown in below picture.)

Shortly before, we received an inquiry for Mud Conditioner. At the moment we got this mail, we are confused for what is the mud conditioner, after one mail and a call to our client, we got to know that, they are in need of Mud Cleaner. In order to prevent the confusion between client and us, we are now talking about this equipments by the name of mud conditioner.

What Is Mud Conditioner

Simply Speaking, mud conditioner is a combination equipment of desander, desilter and Vibration screen. It is always used as the second and the third stage drilling mud cleaning equipment. The upper part of the mud conditioner is desander cone and desilter cone connected by pipeline system, also the pipeline worked as the frame structure. In our design, the size of the drilling mud inlet pipe is always 6″ while the outlet (also called overflow pipe) is 8″. The bottom part of the mud conditioner is a underflow shaker which we match 250 mesh fine screen on the shaker. The screen could be installed and uninstalled easily by inserting and drawing out the wedge block which is used to secure the screen. Continue reading »

People may find that in the previous blogs here, one statement is often mentioned that GN is a professional manufacturer of mud system for CBM. But what is CBM? We think maybe few people know it if not involved in this line.

What is CBM

CBM or coal bed methane is a type of natural gas produced from coal. The coal seam is both the source and the reservoir, which is different from conventional oil and gas.

The Formation of CBM

During the coalification process, some organic matter is converted into coal, while some other organic matter is transformed into natural gas, which is then adsorbed onto the surface of the coal. The methane stored is up to seven times the amount of natural gas stored in a conventional sandstone reservoir.
When the pressure of the coals at depth is released, the CBM produced. This process is called dewatering, for this occurs when water trapped within the coal is removed.

How People Develop the CBM

The challenge in developing CBM is to find ‘sweet spots’that allow gas to flow at commercial rates. These factors include gas content and saturation in the coal, the permeability of the coal, thickness of the coal seams and the areal extent.
A 300 to 1,200 metre deep well is used to extract CBM from the coal bed. A special rotating blade ream out cavities in the coal seams. Water, released from the coal, is pumped from the well then the gas separate from the coal and flow into the well. The water is transported through underground pipes to a dam for possible reuse and recycling. The gas passes through a separator near the well head to remove water traces before being piped to a processing facility to be compressed and dehydrated. The gas is then fed into commercial pipelines.

Location and Application of Cellar Pump

In a HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) project, the drilling mud overflowing from the drill hole is often guided into a mud pit or a lower tank which the drilling mud level is lower than the drilling mud cleaning equipments. Therefore, we need a device to transfer the mud from a lower place to a relative higher place, that is why we choose cellar pump. Cellar pump is used to transfer the drilling mud to the first stage mud cleaning equipment – shale shaker. To some extend, cellar pump is not one part of the complete mud cleaning system. It is a medium between the rig and mud system.

Paddle Mixer is a widely seen device in solid control system, which is mainly used to agitate and blend drilling mud so as to control the depositions of solid particles in the tank cycling system and keep the mud property.

Paddle Mixer Structure and Operation Principle

Paddle Mixer Include: explosion–proof motor, reducer, seating and impeller. The motor and reducer are installed horizontally on the top surface of the mud tank.
Connection: Rigid shaft adapters are used to connect the motor to reducer, and reducer to impeller.
Operation Principle: The impeller agitates the drilling mud and makes it revolving to enhance the stirring effect. The plate mounted to the impeller shaft by flange with bolts could prevent solid particles in mud from depositing around the impeller so as to reduce the friction force when the shaft rotating.

Mud Tank is widely used in the oilfield mud recycling system not only as the vessel of drilling mud, but also as the base of the drilling mud treatment equipments. In a complete mud recycling system for the oil well drilling rig, there would be many tanks involved. Sometimes, all these tanks looked same from out shape, and connected by pipeline; while other times, these tanks are various in demension and independent for different function. These tanks maybe given different names by different supplier, now, we will talk about the tank with name from GN Solids Control.

From the shaker tank, we are getting into the mud cleaning system, in general condition, we will install shale shaker on the tank surface, and the quantity of shale shaker depends on the treating capacity of the system. In order to remove the gas from the drilling mud and enhance the efficiency of the following centrifugal pump which feed the mud to cyclone seperator, we could, as per the client requirment, install a vacuum degasser behind the shale shaker. If there is still enough space on the tank surface, we could install the desander, desilter or mud cleaner on it. However, we always install the mud cleaner in the next tank to prevent the crowded layout on tank surface, then we get into the next tank.
