2 sets mud agitator are waiting to be delivered to Muscat, Oman. Different from our standard agitator, the prime future of these 2 sets agitators is that they have a very long rotationg shaft which is of 3.3 meters.

Our customer will apply the agitators on the cylindrical tanks with depth near 4 meters. The agitator is consist of 15KW electrical motor, gear box and shaft with double impellers. The 3.3 meters long shaft is devided into 2 sections, in order to easy transportation and different purpose in operating. The double layer 950mm diameter impeller is designed as movable as per the customer’s requirements, the joint point of the shaft is between the 2 layers impeller, after removeing the down half section, the agitator still could work.

During the communication with our customer, we suggest to install the stabilizer for the agitator to prevent the shaking when the shaft rotating. Considering there is pipeling opening at the bottom of the tank, our customer design the stabilizer impending with the supports connecting with the tank wall, and they will produce by theirself.

Mud Tank is widely used in the oilfield mud recycling system not only as the vessel of drilling mud, but also as the base of the drilling mud treatment equipments. In a complete mud recycling system for the oil well drilling rig, there would be many tanks involved. Sometimes, all these tanks looked same from out shape, and connected by pipeline; while other times, these tanks are various in demension and independent for different function. These tanks maybe given different names by different supplier, now, we will talk about the tank with name from GN Solids Control.

Mud Tank as Shaker Tank

From the shaker tank, we are getting into the mud cleaning system, in general condition, we will install shale shaker on the tank surface, and the quantity of shale shaker depends on the treating capacity of the system. In order to remove the gas from the drilling mud and enhance the efficiency of the following centrifugal pump which feed the mud to cyclone seperator, we could, as per the client requirment, install a vacuum degasser behind the shale shaker. If there is still enough space on the tank surface, we could install the desander, desilter or mud cleaner on it. However, we always install the mud cleaner in the next tank to prevent the crowded layout on tank surface, then we get into the next tank.

Trip tank is a component of the auxiliary tank system for the drilling mud recycling system. It is shaped as a small metal tank which equiped with liquid-level gauge. Concerning the capacity of trip tank, we could find 2 statements: one is 10 to 15 barrels with 1-barrel divisions, and the other is 20-40 barrels with 1 bbl divisions. Whatever, it is a certain that the trip tank capacity is depended on the maximum well depth and the drill string size.

Since the small volume, the mud surface height change is clear came to know when the mud flow rate changing. Therefore, trip tank is used to monitor the well. There are several operations that we can use the trip tank to monitor the well as follows;

1. When the drill string comes out of the hole, a volume of mud equal to that which the drill pipe occupied while in the hole must be pumped into the hole to replace the pipe.
2. When the drill string goes back in the hole, the drill pipe displaces a certain amount of mud, and a trip tank can be used again to keep track of this volume.

Addition section compartment

Including drilling fluid from other sources and drilling fluid dumped from trip tanks. Any fluid introduced into the drilling mud tank system shall pass through the shale shaker screens, several, compartment.

All commercial material additions shall enter the system in the addition section which can be one, or possible from the compartment(s) from which the fluid is pumped downhole. In order to facilitate complete blending before circulation, material additions shall take place as far as a premix tank is recommended. Bentonite shall be prehydrated before it is added to the active mud tank system.

Procedure for suction compartment

The suction section shall be the largest volume in the surface system. It shall be well agitated to provide uniform drilling fluid properties. The suction section shall include a small slugging tank with submerged mud guns for stirring and suspension. The suction for the centrifugal pump feeding these guns shall come from the slug tank.

The amount of waste to be generated.The space, equipment and personnel utilised in the discharge section shall be adequate for handling

The volume of drilled solids is expected to be at least three times the gauge-hole volume. With poor solids removal performance the volume of discarded fluid may be significantly larger.

Volume of excess drilling fluid generated while drilling is highly variable and can vary from three to four or ten to fifteen. The equipment solids removal efficiency determines the volume of drilling fluid waste. The higher volumes are expected when drilling softer formations with water-based drilling fluid.

Drilling fluid mixing and blending parts

In the mud mixing tank or compartment. The drilling fluid mixing hoppers shall include a jet nozzle and a venturi for proper mixing. In order to avoid aeration of the circulated fluid, the hopper shall be turned off when not in use. Shearing devices are recommended for accelerating the hydration of polymers and Bentonite.
