First stage for solids control & purification
Shale shaker is widely known as a solids control equipments used in drilling projects. It is a very basic equipment that could separate the drilling cutting more than 250 microns by fine mesh screens. During this stage, actually, the solids control and purificaion happens at the same time. Just as its name implies, solids control is separate the solids from the fluids, while the drilling cutting and other large size impurities being separated, the drilling mud is purified.

Shale shaker is one type major solids control equipment used in oilfield drilling, HDD or other drilling projects. Nowadays, the most advantaged shale shaker is the balanced elliptical shale shaker, while the most popular used is the linear motion shale shaker. What is the difference between the linear motion and balanced elliptical shale shaker. Let’s talk something about it.
As we known, the second generation shale shaker is Elliptical motion, the third generation is linear motion and the fourth generation is balanced elliptical motion. Many clients often regard the fourth generation as elliptical motion, however, that is an incorrect understading about it. Please refer the pictures below, you could find the difference of these two vibration mode:
 Linear Motion
Linear motion shale shaker often apply 2 vibrating motor with same power, but the vibrating direction is opposit horizontal. At the vertical direction, the vibrating force produced by 2 motors will reduplicate. Thus the vibrationg mode is a linear and forward direction.
While on a Balanced elliptical shale shaker, the 2 vibrating motors are different in power, that results an unbalanced force counteracting. So the vibration mode will be like that (shown in below picture.)

Location and Application of Cellar Pump
In a HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) project, the drilling mud overflowing from the drill hole is often guided into a mud pit or a lower tank which the drilling mud level is lower than the drilling mud cleaning equipments. Therefore, we need a device to transfer the mud from a lower place to a relative higher place, that is why we choose cellar pump. Cellar pump is used to transfer the drilling mud to the first stage mud cleaning equipment – shale shaker. To some extend, cellar pump is not one part of the complete mud cleaning system. It is a medium between the rig and mud system.

What is Pit Less Drilling System

Goodeng 35T rig usually requests Considering users’ requirements on limit space and economical cost our engineer designed following proposal
This mud system including 1 mud tank sized about 2160bbl. There is a desilter on the mud tank. To provide complete solution, we need another equipment-Submersible slurry pump. Nowadays, sumbersible slurry pump is more and more popular in HDD mud system. Maybe it is as feeding pump for shale shaker. For this system, it is also feeding pump for Desilter.
This Goodeng 35 T rig need one mud pump holding charge capacity as 320l/min. So the system should cater to the flow capacity. Then desilter we designed as three 4″ cones, the capacity is up to about 198GPM. It holding larger treating capacity but it request much less cost than common desilter and/or combined with desander cones so it is more cost-effective.
The submersible slurry pump in this system requests 7.5KW power. And its capacity is about 352GPM. This will provide sufficient mud flow and pressure for desilter cone and get ideal result for particles smaller than 20 microns separation
The mud system flow
The drilling mud system for Goodeng 35T rig is a special simple type. But it is very complete one including chargeing and separation. As we all know, HDD job site space is rather limit there is usually a mud pit to store dirty drillilng mud.
The submersible slurry pump will pump drilling mud from the mud pit to the desilter directly. After desilter cones separation most of particles sized 15~20 microns will be separated out of drilling mud.

400GPM and 500GPM mud recycling system is the best sold mud system in GN. But the specification and design is not always same although the treating capacity is same.
For example, clients may have different requirement each time according the actual situation of drilling mud. The drilling site is different, the mud density and viscosity may be different, then we will use different model equipments, our standard mud is with 1.2g density and 40~45s viscosity.
A standard 400GPM mud recycling system including the following equipments:
1 GNZS63-3 shale shaker
- 400gpm mud recycling system
2 GNZJ63-3 mud cleaner or ZQJ200S desander & ZQJ100S desilter
The former one has better treating performance, because the underflow shaker is GNZS63-3 with 2.4m2 screen area. The latter one is small underflow shaker, with 1.0m2 screen area. But the latter one is much cheaper.
