Workover rig application

Workover rig is one kind of drilling rig also. It is widely used in oil and gas well drilling.  Workover is used to refer to any kind of o & g well intervention involving invasive techniques, such as wireline, coiled tubing or snubbing. More specifically though, it will refer to the expensive process of pulling and replacing a completion

The workover begins by removing the wellhead and possibly the flow line then lifting the tubing hanger from the casing head and thus beginning to pull the completion out of the well.

If the packer is retrievable it can be released easily enough and pulled out with the completion string. The string will almost always be fixed in place by at least one production packer.

The movable drilling fluid process system is same as common systems. Usually it including 4-phase process. Shale shaker both linear motion or BEM shaker, then come to desander, desilter, decanting centrifuge. Also maybe including jet mixing unit.

Considering treating capacity as well as transportation we design mud tank and system more compact. On system tank, we configure GNZS or GNPS shale shaker, GNZJ or GNPJ Mud cleaner, LW series centrifuge, mud mixing hopper, centrifugal feeding pump, complete explosion proof control panel, all necessary accessories on one oil skid mounted tank

This trailer mounted mud system is for oil well drilling. The rig can drill 3-4km. One of our client requests us to configure following trailer mounted mud system for 750HP rig. As we know, the drilling rig can be manufactured as trailer mounted also. Regarding to industry terms, 750HP rig can be said 175T drilling rig also.

I. Mud system configuration

This trailer mounted mud system requires about 600GPM capacity. Following design is basic information on 750HP rig mud system

1. Shale Shaker Tank in trailer mounted system

+/-300 bbls with following compartments, Trip compartment  : +/-50 bbls with readout on drillers console and plumbed for recirculation, Sand Trap : +/-50 bbls, Degasser Tank : with lo-pressure mud gun,+/-100 bbls capacity. Mud cleaner tank : with 10 hp agitator & 10- pressure mud gun, +/-100 bbls capacity

2. Suction Tank

+/-350 bbls with following compartments; Suction compartment: +/-100 bbls with 10 hp agitator & lo-pressure mud gun. Intermediate compartment: +/-100 bbls with 10 hp agitator & lo – pressure mud gun, Mixing compartment: +/-100 bbls with 10 hp agitator & lo-pressure mud gun. Pill Tank : +/-50 bbl with 10HP Agitator & low pressure mud gun, also should includ mixing hopper: with mixing pump & lines to all compartments

3. Reserve Tank

With following compartments; Mud Tank :+/-125 bbls with 10 hp agitator & lo-pressure mud gun. Mud Tank :+/-125 bbls with 10 hp agitator & lo-pressure mud gun. Water Tank : +/-100 bbl. Mud hopper : with mixing pump & lines to all compartments

4. Swab or Test Tank

+/-300 bbls with +/-equal compartments, each plumbed for separate discharge to vacuum truck or water tank. Complete with minimum 32 ” Poor-Boy Degasser with proper vent, fluid leg and inspection hatch.

II. 750HP rig trailer mounted mud  equipments detail

1. Shale Shaker in system Tandem shale shaker mounted on shaker tank. The capacity will up to 1056GPM. Shaker screens will be provided together with shakers. The shale shaker can be linear motion or balanced elliptical motion shaker.

2. Mud Cleaner: Require two 10” desander cones and ten 4” desilter cones. The total capacity is up to 880GPM. Under set shaker can be linear motion or BEM type

3. Independent centrifugal sand pumps: These centrifugal pumps are used as charge pumps for mud cleaner cones. They are applied to mud transfer and mud mixing. Totally need 4 centrifugal pumps. The power should be 45KW, charging capacity should be 200m3/h.

4. Mud/Gas Separator : Poor-Boy degasser ,vertical mounted with baffles, fluid leg, inspection hatch. Holding 24″ OD x 14′ high with 4″ OD inlet from choke manifold, 8″ OD return line to shale shakers, 8″ OD vent line, 4″OD drain & all necessary piping to connect to choke manifold, shale tank & flare line, etc.

Slurry handling unit including slurry separation unit (slurry recycling unit) and slurry mixing unit.

Slurry recycling unit is to separate the impurities and large solids from the mud and get clean slurry to be re-used.

You use mechanical separation equipments for the slurry handling unit, Mechanical separation equipment employs mass differences, size differences or a combination of both to selectively reject undesirable solids and retain desirable drilling fluid.  The desanders and desilters utilize centrifuge force and mass difference between the solids density and liquid density for solids removal. The shale shakers employ a vibrating screen of various micron-sized differences.

Maybe you will adopt shale shaker, desander, desilter and centrifuge for slurry separation unit.

One method of removing solids from drilling mud is to pass the mud over the surface of a vibrating screen. Particles smaller than the openings in the screen pass through the holes of the screen along with the liquid phase of the mud. Particles too large to pass through the screen are thereby separated from the mud for disposal. Basically, a screen acts as a “go-no-go” gauge:  Either a particle is small enough to pass through the screen or it is not

Hydrocyclones are simple mechanical devices, without moving parts, designed to speed up the settling process. Feed pressure is transformed into centrifugal force inside the cyclone or cone to accelerate particle settling in accordance with Stoke’s Law #1. In essence, a cyclone is a miniature settling pit which alloys very rapid settling of solids under controlled conditions.

Offshore drilling mud system became highly important to reduce the disastrous affect on the surrounding marine environment and treating drilling fluids and make it circulation.

Offshore drilling rigs are configured with a number of different drilling systems to suit drilling in the marine environment, it is the difference between onshore and offshore drilling.

In the drilling process, the drilling fluid is used as the following function.

1 Remove drilling cuttings from well

2 Cool, lubricate, and support the bit and drilling assembly

3Transmit hydraulic energy to tools and bit

4 Minimize impact on environment

These drilling muds and cuttings as well as the produced waters contain, these chemicals pose a threat to the area surrounding the rigs for as many as forty years.

For every well that is drilled, about 8,000 square feet can be covered by as much as a meter thick of drilling waste, which can remain in the environment for at least two years. If the mud were to get scattered, the waste could ultimately last for as long as forty years.

We need an efficient mud circulation system to reduce the use of drilling fluids chemicals, also we need a drilling cutting processing system to dispose the waste properly.

Offshore drilling mud system is a little different with onshore drilling mud system on the material, GN solids control produce offshore drilling mud system with marine flame proof electric motor and control panel, mud tank painting with (Japan Kansai & Cosco) brand epoxy zinc-rich marine anticorrosive paint, and the thickness of mud tank and solids control equipments are thicker than land drilling mud system.
